I’m Laura M. Parra, a first-generation Latina, community organizer, social worker, therapist, and public servant dedicated to building a more just and equitable New Mexico. As the oldest daughter of immigrant parents, I understand firsthand the challenges families face when navigating systems that were not designed with them in mind. Growing up with Spanish as my first language, I learned early the importance of advocacy, representation, and making sure every voice is heard.

I began my journey in community service at 16 years old and later earned my degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice from Western New Mexico University. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I completed my social work practicum with the New Mexico Department of Health, strengthening my passion for helping individuals and families through times of crisis.

Today, I serve as the founder and executive director of Voices for Change, a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to civic engagement, leadership development, and community advocacy. Through Voices for Change, I work alongside young people to empower the next generation of leaders, expand civic participation, and connect communities with resources that create meaningful, lasting change.

In addition to my nonprofit work, I am currently pursuing my graduate degree, continuing my commitment to public service, leadership, and strengthening the communities I call home.

I currently serve as Mayor Pro Tem and Deming City Councilor for District 2, where I have worked to amplify rural voices and advocate for policies that strengthen families, expand opportunity, and improve the quality of life for our community. I am also a candidate for New Mexico State Representative for District 32, committed to bringing practical, community-driven leadership to Santa Fe while continuing to serve the residents of District 2 as Mayor Pro Tem and City Councilor. I believe effective public service starts by listening, building partnerships, and ensuring rural communities have a strong voice at every level of government.

I am running because I believe rural communities deserve more than promises, they deserve action, investment, and leadership that shows up. I believe a State Representative should be a representative for all—someone who listens first, leads with integrity, and works to bring people together around solutions that strengthen our communities. I will continue fighting for working families, expanding opportunities for our youth, and ensuring that the voices of rural New Mexicans are heard and represented in Santa Fe.
